Details: As part of the CAER Heritage Project this event will launch a series of four exciting new heritage trails which have been created in collaboration with local community groups and schools in Caerau and Ely to highlight the amazing heritage of these areas.
These trails take in important archaeological sites, historic locations and local memories and folklore encompassing Caerau and Ely’s fascinating and vibrant history: from the Iron Age prehistory through the Roman and medieval eras to the Second World War 2 and into the 21st century.
Choose one of these trails and join and walk with the local people who helped to create it in a coordinated simultaneous trail walk event which will culminate in a gathering of trail walkers from all 4 trails at a heritage fair at the heart of Ely and Caerau.
The trails to choose from are:
Plymouth Woodland Walk (taking in historic Plymouth Woods and St Fagans) commencing at Ely Recreation Ground at 11.00am
Celtic Caerau Trail (taking in Caerau Iron Age Hillfort) commencing outside the Post Office Church Road, Caerau at 11.00am
Medieval Michaelston Trail (taking in Michaelston Deserted Medieval Village and St Michaels Church) commencing outside Michaelston Community College) at 11.00am
From the Romans to the Races Trail (taking in the site of Caerau’s Roman villa and Ely Racecourse) commencing from Trelai Park car park at 11.00am
